Como todos los años desde los 90, he preparado la lista de favoritos de 2010, un año musicalmente muy interesante: 150 discos (25 destacados en mayúscula), 20 compilados/reediciones y mis 20 venezolanos.

Acto de Fe 13 de diciembre, 2010 Especial John Lennon: ¿Que hiciste Mark Chapman?

A treinta años de su absurda y prematura muerte, Lennon recibe todo tipo de homenajes y revisiones. Acto de Fe recorre su discografía no oficial: demos, tomas alternas y grabaciones en vivo. Lennon no tuvo una discografía prolífica. Entre 1970 y 1975 editó 5 discos, uno de ellos (Rock and Roll, 1975) de versiones y otro (Sometime in NY City, 1972)) bastante cuestionado. Cuando habíaa recuperado las ganas de hacer música, a tres semanas de la edición de Double Fantasy, un fan desequilibrado le pegó 4 tiros a la entrada de su edificio.

A 9 años de la muerte de Harrison y 40 de la edición del gran All Things Must Pass, realizamos un homenaje en dos partes. Este segundo capítulo se centra en la carrera solista posterior a su disco debut, comenzando por Living in The Material World de 1973 y Dark Horse de 1974, dos trabajos que continuaron sus años de inspiración y mayor éxito. Hasta 1982, Harrison estuvo sumamente activo. Siguieron los discos Extra Texture (1975), 33 1/3 (1976), George Harrison (1979), Somewhere in England (1981) y Gone Troppo (1982). A partir de ese momento su actividad decrecería de forma alarmante, aunque cinco años después editó Cloud Nine (1987) uno de sus mejores discos y emprendería la aventura de Travelling Wilburys entre 1988 y 1990 junto a Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan, Jeff Lynee y Tom Petty. En los 90 solo editó el doble disco en vivo Live in Japan (1992) y cuando habia recuperado la inspiración le sobrevino la muerte, antes de poder editar el excelente Brainwashed (2002) que fue completado por su hijo Dani y Jeff Lynne.

Hoy 29 de noviembre, hace exactamente 9 años, murió George Harrison. Tenía apenas 58 años.

Este fin de semana se cumplieron 40 años (27 de noviembre) de la edición del que quizá sea el mejor y más ambicioso disco de un beatle solista: All Things Must Pass, el primer disco triple editado por algun artista pop. En mayo de aquel año 1970 se habia anunciado la disolución de The Beatles y cada uno de ellos editó los primeros discos post-ruptura. Harrison, sin embargo, había sido el primer beatle en intentarlo en solitario con dos trabajos experimentales lanzados en 1968 y 69: Wonderwall Music y Electronic Sounds.

En los ultimos años de los Beatlesm Harrison se había mostrado como un gran compositor, con temas de gran calidad, influenciados por la psicodelia y la música de la India (que lo sedujo para siempre). Pero Lennon y McCartney apenas le permitian algunas rendijas. Así, george fue acumulando canciones, tantas que pudo sacar un disco triple y dejar algunas para venideros discos.

Dedicaremos este programa a revisar el fértil período que arrojó All Thing Must Pass, con temas oficiales, demos y grabaciones alternas, así como la etapa inmediata de 1971 cuando Harrison se convirtiño en el primer artista pop en organizar un concierto benéfico para un pais: The Concert for Bangladesh, acompañado de sus amigos Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, Bob Dylan, Leon Russell, Jim Keltner, Klaus Voorman.....

La segunda parte (la semana que viene) la dedicaremos a revisar el resto de su obra.
